WHAT ARE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES? |
|
These are industries that utilize CREATIVITY as the main resource:
Cultural Tourism, Crafts, Fashion, Industrial Design (Furniture, etc.),
Multimedia (Music, Movies, Animation), Computer Programs Design, Architecture
and others.
In many countries, creative industries are the new growth
areas of the economy, and are starting to account for greater portions
of GDP.
What makes creative industries unique is the fact that they
generally require little raw material input (as opposed to, say, manufacturing)
or capital infusion (as opposed to tourism service industries). Furthermore,
all communities have resources for creative industries.

BIBO Bohol, a proposed program of creative industries, is a continuing program with no set duration. It advocates the use of creativity among active artists to spur creative production throughout the general community, to spawn an industry capable of producing, and which regularly produces, a variety of creative goods and services.
This is in the conviction that such creative activity will spur economic growth and generate economic benefits for the people.
The ultimate goal will be poverty reduction through creative productivity, parallel with the provincial government's Bohol Poverty Reduction Program (BPRP), and the national government's thrust towards this same goal.
Poverty issues will be addressed with the development of pilot creative industries that will engage members of the targeted households. Stakeholders will be further trained in cost-effective production and will be provided with inputs to hone their marketing skills. Cultural resources will be managed and revitalized. Problems related to tourism will be mitigated with the strict implementation of legal codes related to heritage preservation, construction or building of edifices in fragile eco-systems or heritage areas. The concept of true eco-cultural tourism will be mainstreamed in government and in public education. The youth will be meaningfully engaged. Such activities will demonstrate the undervalued inputs of creative industries in community development
Traditional paths and programs on development have concentrated on infrastructure, social remedies, economic inputs, political education, but have sorely missed a very significant element: CULTURE. This program highlights the central role of culture in human and social development. Its major innovation lies in the use of culture and heritage as engines for development. It utilizes an important community resource often overlooked - CREATIVITY.
The program aims at specific development goals: the creation of employment and livelihood through the CREATIVE INDUSTRIES. In this case the creative industries which will be emphasized are musical production, crafts production and cultural tourism. The project hopes to show that in order for such livelihood projects to succeed it is necessary that creative resources are effectively managed, and that creative artists and producers are actively assisted.
Put succinctly, BIBO Bohol is a long term multi-dimensional program of social entrepreneurships drawing resource from Bohol's cultural heritage and Boholano creativity.
